Cult of Mac Magazine App Reviews

I used to enjoy Cult of Mac, but this has been neglected and it keeps resubscribing me. There is no way to get rid of it. No one will read this anyway.

A recent article linked to this app and said “read for free on our app” A few sample “free” issues from 2015 show up (cover page only). then app sits spinning / loading forever. will delete app soon as i finish writing this. app is stale / updated last over 5 years ago. should be pulled off the app store!

Weird how online articles still reference the app, but humorously, the app hasn’t been updated since 2016. If it were 2016, I would give this app a solid 3 stars.

The issues that show up are all from 2015.

Yes, this app hasn’t been updated for 4 years, but it works perfectly on my XR. Yes, the initial setup screen is annoyingly slow (it has taken about 5 minutes to finish), and yes it has current articles (again you need to wait an excessive amount of time to have them download) but overall it is a great app. They do need to update and make the process faster but you do get everything.

Difficult to write a review when the app gets seemingly stuck on the ‘initial setup’ white screen for several minutes. When all of a sudden, the cover of an issue appears. Great I think, but wait, why does it look weird... oh, that’s right, it’s an issue from 2015. That’s right, 2015. Not sure I have much else to comment at this point. Other than, huh, seriously?

It’s not up to much for iPhone X and when I load the app it only shows me 103 which is the last copy and the website says right now we’re on 303

Seriously. It’s annoying. Everyone wants me to put THEIR app on my phone. Something like this is not the right place for an application. It does nothing for me. Can you write Objective C or Swift but not HTML? Do you need a web developer? Or maybe a copy of Adobe Acrobat or a link to LibreOffice so you can make a PDF of the magazine you want to make available on your website? It’s not rocket science. Please be like every other news outlet and use your friggin website instead of making people download YET ANOTHER REDUNDANT APP.

I love the Cult of Mac podcast. I also love this app on my iPad. The content is great, it’s always up to date. The format of scrolling between magazines and articles is very fluid and user friendly. This would easily be a 5 star app...but I am baffled that it is not updated for the new iPhones. Im reading reviews and articles on my iPhone Xs Max, and it’s like reading it on an iPhone 8 Plus with the bars on top and bottom. Update the app, and I’ll absolutely add those 2 stars and update the review. Outside of that, keep up the outstanding work!!

I downloaded this because it was advertised in a story from Cult of Mac...the app isn’t updated to utilize the full screen of the XS Max. It’s been out long enough. Get with the program.

Has some issues from 3 years ago. New ones won’t load

Latest issue has been out over a week and I STILL can’t read it. Please UPDATE

This is a magazine about Apple. Shouldn’t they update to support Apple’s latest flagship device (iPhone Xs Max)?

I can get the same information on other sites without requiring me to accept all of the ads.

Why bother downloading the app when it’s “magazine” is just filled with links that redirect you to the Cult of Mac site?

I don't get the beef on these reviews. But I guess if you read the comments on Cult of Mac it makes sense. We're some of the most passionate and opinionated readers out there. Despite being a loyal Cult of Mac reader who falls into this category I think the app is great. And I obviously love the content.

This app serves up a weekly roundup of the best news and features (including how-tos, tips and product reviews) from Apple news website Cult of Mac.

Superb content from a staff of Apple experts who also keep it fun. This mag is the perfect way to catch up on all the important Apple news.

Reading CoM articles in News. Forces you to go to CoM app to "read more". But instead of directly going to the "read more" article, it takes you to the App Store, where you have to re-open the CoM app, which brings you to the entire CoM archive, NOT the requested article. Absolutely a pain.

This app is a hot mess. Cult of Mac has great content but the app just lets me down again & again. PLEASE MAKE A BETTER APP

Love this magazine!

Despite the last issue of the old app that implores you to update and states that your back issues will be kept, after updating I only have back issues through July of this year, and I have lost all of my previous issues prior to July. Nice, huh? How can they possibly do this? I've seen this before wth some Newsstand magazines but this takes the cake. Will be canceling my subscription and I would recommend NOT updating to the new version.

I love this app and read cult of Mac every week and the editorial is top notch. I was waiting for the redesign and I finally got it. BUT PLEASE, go back to the old app icon that was smaller, the new one looks hideous. This is the only complaint I have with the app, otherwise it is a 5 star app, keep it up!

It's astounding that a tech mag could present this crappy a product. I'll bet the articles are worth reading if only you could. This is possibly the worst app I've ever attempted to use. If you're a person who likes to be frustrated, download this app. Otherwise, assume if there is anything worthwhile they write about it will show up somewhere else.

Using an iPhone 5s and it doesn't even allow downloading a simple article. Don't waste your time. Hopefully they fix it soon.

While the idea for this magazine is a good one, the implementation is not! It is very difficult to download a magazine. It will take many attempts before it starts to download, then it stops. The application freezes frequently too. It is so frustrating that I decided to delete the application and will not subscribe. Too bad. I like Cult of Mac and was hoping this might generate some additional revenue for them.

The app’s description states “Subscriptions are Free! All subscriptions include access to all back issues.” So I tap Subscribe, and it immediately asks for money. Excuse me! I was able to download one free issue, but now I can’t find the way back to the issues screen. This app really needs some work. It’s about as hostile as they come.

You would think a bunch of Apple nerds could write a magazine app that doesn't lock up or download properly. It's good info....if you actually get to read it. Lame attempt CoM! Adding on: actually worst app ever considering the source. I'm no novice; I work for Apple...my kid could write more stable code.

While I enjoy the weekly article content, I am canceling subscription. Every week, multiple articles fail to load full content, cutting of both text and pictures. I'm tired of paying for content I'm not getting. App frequently hangs, and no apparent way to exit one issue to read another except kill the app and restart it. Done.

I love the Cult of Mac magazine – when it's published. It has been MIA for the past couple of weeks. Every once in a while one issue goes missing,but this is the first time I've seen two consecutive missions missing. (I'm a charter subscriber.) 5 stars for most issues. 4-3 stars for an occasional issue. 1 star for missing issues. Average = 4 stars.

My first downloaded issue -- and for .99¢ ! -- for me it is right on the mark! On a score of 1 to 10 you get a 9.9 -- Thanks. I intend to read further issues !

As a weekly publication, I get that it's hard to put a lot of effort into content design consistently, but I would enjoy this a lot better if it didn't look like a basic blog. Articles, otherwise, are pretty good. Thanks.

Emailed Cult of Mac after buying an issue and not being able to download. No answer. Reported to Apple and they were gracious enough to refund me.

This mag is a good source for mac news. It's weekly which is nice and the design is even ok. But everytime I launch the app I have to restore purchases to do anything! There is no easily accessible way to write a support ticket from the app also which is bad for regular users. Fix these things and it will be 5 star.

Love the magazine and podcast, but the latest edition on iOS security is not downloadable in my 64GB iPhone 5s. When opening the Cult of Mac magazine app, the purchase button just spins indicating "updating price" but never stops spinning. I have reset the app and the phone. Is there any other workaround?

I am not one to write reviews, but I feel like I must for this. At $0.99 per issue (4 issues/month) OR $1.99/month it's almost impossible to pass this up. It's not your traditional magazine with pages and pages of ads and other nonsense. It seems to be between 5-10 articles, all of which are written with great input. Thoughtful, useful and informative writing. I LOVE the Genius Bar section in each issue. It gives you an inside look of the thought process, a very compelling read. I am truly enjoying. Well worth the $1.99/month.

Great app, great articles, but is there anyway to get back to the table of contents from the article? If there is I haven't been able to find it on my iPad mini.

Articles are great, but first I'd like to change the font size, secondly, I bought an issue on my mini iPad, and it won't show up on my iPad 3. I would like to order A full subscription, but Only if I can see it on all my IOS Apple devices. Please fix this. Fix these problems and you get 5 stars

All issues have been fixed and I rate this back at 5 stars. It now says I'm subscribed, all issues have shown back up and the reading is great!!!! Thanks for the fix, this is totally worth subscribing to....

Guys, love the content, but subscibe button doesn't work. Can't restore old purchases either! The three stars goes to five when fixed.

Keep up the good work. The app has simple navigation, straight to content to read and watch. Pretty good artwork that doesn't get in the way of the news.

I sent cult of mac on Twitter a request to add a restore feature.

I am subscribed, but can only see the 1st issue. Also, please add option to change font size

This magazine is superb. The best and most informative writers with excellent reviews and articles for keeping up with all things Apple. Everybody on earth should subscribe to Cult of Mac mag!!

Great format specially designed for the iOS and not a scan magazine like so many others ruining the experience and not taking advantage of devices like the iPhone or iPad.
